Why Handmade?

Bespoke tailoring always emphasises the importance of hand sewing. More than 80% of work is done without a sewing machine. However, it is hardly convincing to stick with handmade for the sake of handicraft while there are better alternatives. The handwork of tailoring has already stood the test of time. Practically hand sewing does make more beautiful garments but we know the use of machinery can have better results for particular processes. It is unrealistic to use back stitching to sew the side seams when a lockstitch machine does a better job (we consider mastering a lockstitch machine is itself an art). In fact, a combination of handwork and machine stitching can get more optimal results such as making jetted pockets. It is complicated to explain how hand sewing achieves certain aesthetics of tailoring in writing alone. It is the soul of pursuing artistic excellence that keeps tailors’ persistence in hand sewing.
